Heartfelt congratulations are in order for our many friends who picked up nominations for the 2016 Tony Awards this past week!
Among the record-setting 16 nominations for Hamilton was a first time nod for actor Daveed Diggs (A Civil War Christmas), for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller directed our reading of The Man in the Ceiling at last year’s New Works Festival while fellow cast members Javier Munoz and Sydney James Harcourt appeared in our 2013 NWF reading of Cubamor. In addition, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler picked up his second Tony nomination for Hamilton. His work was previously seen at TheatreWorks in A Little Princess.
Alex Brightman (The Secret Garden, Cabaret, Romeo and Juliet) earned his first Tony Nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his starring role in School of Rock.
Megan Hilty (Vanities ) earned her first Tony nomination for Noises Off.
Danny Burstein (Everything’s Ducky) picked up his sixth Tony nomination for his turn as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.
Bright Star, starring alum A.J. Shively (Marry Me a Little) earned five nominations, including Best Musical.
The Humans, starring alum Cassie Beck (Be Aggressive, Living Out, All My Sons), picked up six nominations, including Best Play.
